First Draft is a curated open mic-style event that brings local writers together from different career stages to read works-in-progress.  From published authors to emerging high school voices, First Draft encourages community building and mentorship as part of the writing process. Each curated (invited) writer gets seven minutes. Open mic slots are 5 minutes. All genres, bodies, and identities are welcomed.

Lauren Fitch is part High Point University student, part writer, and part manic pixie dream girl. Her writing focuses mostly on women and their relationships to each other. In her spare time you can find her torturing herself studying Huysmans and Sartre, petting any cat in the vicinity, or writing with her friends. Lauren is an intern for SBR Media Literary Agency, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, and has been published in Baltimore Style magazine and Baltimore’s Child Magazine. She is currently writing her first novel. She writes all about writing on her blog at www.laurenfitchwriting.com.


Kate Kehoe is a writer and teacher in Greensboro, North Carolina. Her work has appeared in Bayou Magazine, the Appalachian Journal, and elsewhere.She received her MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she currently works as lecturer teaching English and poetry.



Ashley Lumpkin is a Georgia-raised, Carolina-based writer, editor, actor, and educator. She is the author of three chapbooks, {} At First Sight, Second Glance, and Terrorism and Other Topics for Tea, and one full-length collection,#AshleyLumpkin. A lover of performance as well as the written word, she has been a competing member of Piedmont SLAM, Scuppernong Slammers, and the Bull City Slam Team. She is the host and facilitator of the open mic/workshop series “Untitled: New Works and Works in Progress.” Ashley has been a featured presenter and/or facilitator at various colleges and universities across the country. Above all else, Ashley considers herself a teacher, poet, and changer of fates. In March 2018, Ashley placed 6th at the Women of the World Poetry Slam in Dallas, confirming her status as one of the best female-identified spoken word poets in America. Michael Thomas is a writer and humorist in the Creative Writing program at A&T University.  He is sometimes spotted at Scuppernong Books pulling latte shots. He owns a particularly amazing pair of vintage boots and once designed a sock puppet name Maya.


Deonna Kelli Sayed is an internationally published author, a TEDx speaker, a ghost hunter, and an interfaith instigator. Deonna is the Membership Coordinator of the North Carolina Writers’ Network and serves on the Greensboro Bound Operations Committee. www.deonnaiswriting.com
