Help us Reach our $10,000 Year-End Goal!

Greensboro Bound invites the community to make an investment in literacy by supporting our mission and related programming, including our annual Literary Festival in the spring and our Authors Engaging Students (AES) program. As one of the nonprofit’s flagship initiatives, AES has touched the lives of more than 61,000 students across 68 Guilford County public schools this year alone, fostering a love of reading that lasts a lifetime.

Greensboro Bound began in 2017 when the nonprofit was established to encourage and celebrate reading and writing among Greensboro residents. To complement programs at their annual Literary Festival each May, the nonprofit’s AES program was established to connect Guilford County public schoolchildren with writers whose works coordinate with students’ curriculum. AES fosters community and discussion between students of all ages and writers regarding reading, writing, and composition.

“2024 was one of Greensboro Bound’s busiest and most successful years, in no small part due to our expanding Authors Engaging Students program,” said Steve Colyer, member of the Board of Directors of Greensboro Bound. “We are so thrilled to nurture our partnership with Guilford County Schools each year and watch as our impact on our community’s children and young people grows. By continuing to invest in this program, we are helping build a foundation for lifelong literacy in our community.”

AES engaged more than 61,000 students from 68 Guilford County public schools in virtual sessions with more than 10 authors. This represents a 21% year-over-year growth in school participation and a 16.9% increase in student participation. AES also provided more than 1,400 books to participating school libraries, and those same schools saw an 84% increase in library book circulation.

“I am proud to say that everything we provide at Greensboro Bound is 100% free to the public and to our schoolchildren because of our generous funders,” said Lynn Wooten, Chair of the Board of Directors of Greensboro Bound. “In a time when financial resources are shrinking and funding for our public schools continues to decline, it is more important than ever that we maintain our AES programming. This Giving Tuesday, we ask that you consider donating to Greensboro Bound as part of your charitable giving.”
